Accessibility Improvement Project
The museum accessibility improvement project will be a two phase effort to allow easier access to the museum and our attractions for visitors with mobility issues.
Phase 1 will provide a ramp for visitors to be able to safely exit the rear of our museum building and will also replace the current gravel and stone pathways with concrete walkways. These walkways would enable all visitors to more easily and safely get to the loading platform for the train rides, and then also go from the train ride to the large train barn/event building that is used during our special activities like the North Pole Express decorations display and visiting with Santa.
Phase 2 of the project will provide asphalt paving for access from the train barn to the parking lot, and the designated handicapped parking places in the lot. This phase will allow much easier access for our visitors who have to use the handicapped parking spaces. We realize that the parking lot’s loose stone is difficult and challenging for the people who have used the handicapped parking area to leave the activities in the train barn and return to their vehicles in the parking lot. This would give them a level surface much better than the current loose stone. This phase of the project only paves the handicapped portion of the lot and barn access, not the entire parking area.
Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation has a group of dedicated volunteers who are very skilled and talented. The labor for this project will be supplied by our volunteers. This enables the organization to realize the maximum benefit from all dollars that are received in support of these improvements.
